Hello All.
I have 2xCat6500 with 2xFWSM in them.License for 20 Contexs is activated. Contexts are used in FWSM. FWSM are in Active/Standby Failover Mode.
Problem is that we add a second FWSM into the prodaction network after we already had some clients on our first FWSM. We didn’t plan to use a second FWSM, so why we used /30 networks on some interfaces in contexts. And we didn’t want to make readdressing, in order to configure STANDBY IP in /32 networks.
Before we apply a second FWSM into production network, I tested Failover mode w/o STANDBY IP addresses configured. It looked, that it’s Ok, so we applied the second FW-Module into the production network.
But today we have had an outage of the Primary Cat6500, where Primary Active FWSM is placed. Failover takeover happend, but systems behind the Secondary Standby FWSM, which became Secondary Active worked only patrially.
I afraid, that these STANDBY ip addresses are very important for proper FWSM in Active/Standby Failover Mode functioning.
Does somebody had the same experience? How crucial is to confiure STANDBY ip addresses on interfaces of Secondary Standby FWSM?
Thank you All in advance, Eduard.
