MPLS command on the interface (mpls ip) (tag ip) ?

Question: if I am configuring mpls label ranges, protocol either ldp tdp. What is the difference on the interface command if it supports (mpls ip ) or (tag ip)? Is there a major difference? If so can you share some experience or links on the subject? I’ve run into situations where the router only supports one of the commands and not both.
example:
mpls label protocol ldp mpls label range 20 40 mpls ldp router-id loopback0
int f0/0.99 mpls ip
or
int f0/0.99 tag ip
